I recently had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Elizabeth (Biz) and Dean, with the assistance of my second shooter Nadine. The couple have been engaged for years, and I photographed their engagement session back when I was fairly new to the photography game. And I was super excited to be working with them again for their long-awaited Big Day!
When we arrived at Biz’s house, it was surprisingly calm for such an occasion. Hair and make-up was underway, the dress and shoes were being brought out, the bridesmaids were taking selfies. Even when Father of the Bride said to Biz that “Dean’s called it off”, Biz just laughed (she is used to her father’s sense of humour!) It was when the girls were helped into their dresses that things started to get very ‘real’, and emotions began to flow.
When we reached the church, we were greeted by a very nervous Dean, who was “going to throw up or pass out” and didn’t know which! By the time the service began and he had his bride by his side, though, he seemed relieved and happy. Biz’s father is a minister at the church, and so he conducted the service and married them, which was very sweet. It turns out that Biz and Dean signed the same register book as Elizabeth’s parents did when they married 25 years or so ago!
After the group photos, it was time to head over to the reception venue. When food had been eaten and drink had been consumed, speeches were made by the Best Man and Father of the Bride. Then, family members surprised the couple with various performances of dancing and singing and comedy, all based around the couple’s story. It was then time to party along to the usual wedding ‘classics’, including ‘Cha Cha Slide’ and ‘5678’.
It was a lovely day, with lovely weather (we were very lucky!) and lovely people. A good time was had by all, and we got some wonderful photographs that the couple can treasure for years to come. I wish Mr & Mrs Herniman the biggest congratulations and hope they have enjoyed relaxing on their honeymoon!
